Tender frame for 622

I seem to be in a bit of a holding pattern as I wait for some electronics parts. They’re going to need a place to sit anyway, and so, I’ve returned to work on the tender. ’s tender frame is fully represented, but it’s very difficult to see, and forced me to cram weight into every nook and cranny of the tender body. So ’s frame is made up of four layers of nickel silver. At a single ounce, it’s still too light, but at least it’s heavier than ’s and that means I will have more space in the tender body itself.

The frame is split down the middle, with provision for one truck to feed power through its kingpin on each side. The drawbar will fill a cavity in the front of the frame and connect electrically to the two sides of the engine frame.

Honestly, the hardest aspect of making this part was the mental gymnastics required to decide which layer should go on top to get the electrical connection correct. Like that question in my STAT 241 final exam, I’ve just about worn through the paper, erasing answers. Now that I’ve left the gym, where all our finals seemed to be, I still have butterflies that will only be resolved when I put the two vehicles together, test with a meter and see my final mark.

The tender frame; I think it’s upside down.
