I was looking through some sketchbooks for a kid’s school work earlier this week, and found some sketches I made back when I was still working on the first incarnation of Pembroke. I don’t recall making them, but I know it was during the Pembroke 1.0 era because there’s a track plan for that layout among them.

Pembroke 1.0 didn’t have room for the engine facilities. If I had the same constraint again, I might skip the depot end of the layout and focus instead on the engine facilities. Of course, then it wouldn’t tell the same story as Pembroke 2.0.
The depot platform makes for an interesting foreground structure along the river bank.
The view of cars sitting in Pembroke yard is one of the scenes I am looking forward to being able to photograph.
The post office and Pembroke Street bridge will anchor one end of the layout in time and space.
Hopefully I will be able to photograph this view along the tracks from between the post office and the shop that became Anton’s restaurant. Of course, I’ve since learned that there should be heavy timber buffers keeping more trains from rolling onto Pembroke Street, unless of course, this is a view of the first week of operations.
Will you use mirrors to photograph through the buildings at end of track?
My cell phone fits between the buildings, and with the way those cameras are improving, I expect it will be a perfectly fine shot by the time I finish the scene! Here is what a quick snapshot looks like now: https://www.flickr.com/photos/renegourley/50002225892/in/dateposted/
I’m a little surprised that the road looks so steep. This is the actual measured grade.
