The Devil’s in the Details

I wasn’t deliberately putting off the final shaping of the pasture backdrop. At least I’m pretty sure I wasn’t. I knew it would be some work, and probably a little risky too when it came to adding all the details in the foreground trees. But, the rough shape took only an hour or two; how long could a few bird holes and branches take?

After an hour, I still didn’t have a single satisfactory tree shape. Worse, one of the trees I had spent time on looked more like the silhouette of a sleeping hedgehog than a willow. It was rather meditative work, though, which gave me ample time to – well – meditate.

And so I meditated. I meditated on how long the process would take, and I meditated about the choices that got me here in the first place, and then I meditated on alternative tools to make this whole thing go faster. My mind immediately thought of the laser because lasers are cool, and also good at finely detailed cutting. If only I could cut aluminum with it. Well, stay tuned, because I have a cunning plan, which I’m too excited to write about.
