110 Posts for the Coal Dock

The laser-cut base for the Coal Dock made the alignment of all 110 posts a diddle. I made the holes so that the base held them, but not too snugly. So, each post slipped into its hole with a minimal fuss, and there was a little room to allow for straightening if required, but also little enough that once straightened the holes held the posts until the glue set.

Until, that is, I looked at the assembly later and discovered to my horror that the stop on the NWSL Chopper must have been shifting as I blithely cut all those posts. So one side of the platform was noticeably higher than the other. I considered starting over, but instead clamped my belt sander to the workbench and then gingerly offered the tops of the posts to the whirring 120-grit. About 9/10 of the posts held firm, and the others, well at least they didn’t shatter and embed their shards in the wall of the workshop. Miraculously, the end result was within a few thousandths of an inch of the correct length.
