716 Mary gets a Porch

I’m almost inclined to call this little model finished, except I want to add some more details to liven up the porch. There is a shovel leaning against the corner and a jacket hung from a nail, but it still lacks something.

The porch itself is a simple wood frame, planked with boards left over from the coal dock. I struggled to get the post straight, and in the end I gave up and called it close enough. Hopefully we don’t get too much snow! Fortunately the whole building will be gone by 1913 to make way for the expanded yard.

    1. My go-to source for these sorts of questions is the 1901 Eaton’s catalogue, which Eatons reproduced in 2001. After a quick search, I don’t think gum boots were generally available in Canada in my era. I do, however, like the idea, even though I believe most folks kept their shoes on inside at the time. Corked boots were not typically allowed inside.
