Hay Field Fence

Despite countless household projects, the fence between the hay field and the wheat field managed to get completed this week. The hay will be on the near side of the fence in this view, putting the bright gold wheat field in the foreground from the usual viewing angle. I oriented the fence so it points to the water tower, which is removed for safety while I complete the scenery. Reflecting on the orientation, it might be a little too contrived. Well, we shall see.

  1. Having the fence line run to toward the water tower sounds like a good composition idea. I find it inspiring that you are doing prototype modelling and yet the reality of what is modelled and how it is modelled is still informed by the artistic mind-set.

And from that world, I think the possible solution – should the fence be too obvious – may be in the concept of lost and found edges. You can achieve that in part by having the value of the wheat and hay be closer to that of the fence. Or, perhaps easier, you could have the wheat, hay and the weeds or brambles that along the fence share the same value – and the weeds and brambles obscure parts of the fence.

While a farmer who lets the weeds and brambles grow too much may not be a model for others, a model exposing the failings of that farmer may still be a nice model. lol, couldn’t help myself.

    1. Great idea about soft and hard edges, Rob! I’m also thinking of planting some young shade trees along the fence. These were already recommended by the 1880’s.
