Before I go easing out the holes in the connecting rods, wouldn’t it be nice to know which one is the tightest, and ease that one first? To my eye, the fit of each crankpin is indistinguishable.
So, in an attempt to get scientific about the question, I’ve created some pin gauges. Now after a day-long struggle to even replicate the measurements on my little pins, I realize I should have spent the money to get an official set. Live and learn.
If you turn a cone, at, say 2 or 5 degrees or some shallow slope, that can be used to tell you which hole is tight – the tightest hole won’t slide onto the cone as far.
