Crosshead guides

As with the crossheads themselves, I am surprised the guides folded up successfully. Each slide bar is made of two layers, with half-etched detail, and until their free ends are fixed to the yoke, they remain quite delicate. I completely mangled a set as I removed them from the fret, but fortunately, there were spares.

622 had large oil cups prominently mounted in the middle of the upper slide bars. I may need to assemble the remaining spare so I can figure out how to add this detail.

  1. Always interesting to see these updates.
Was curious how the split frame avoids a short given the mounting pieces across the frame in that area.

    1. Cheers, Rob. The mounting pieces across the frame are split horizontally. Imagine a nickel silver – epoxy – nickel silver sandwich, where the top layer of NS is connected to one frame and the bottom layer of NS is connected to the other. This sandwich also plays a role in current collection from the engine truck.
