A New Airbrush

After last year’s rant about my airbrush, I decided to do something about it. The first consideration was that the new tool should be gravity-feed, rather than siphon-feed like both my previous airbrushes. Painting HO scale models uses a surprisingly small amount of paint – drops.

Ultimately, I am not going to place a ton of stress on any airbrush. I mostly need it to apply even coats of a single colour; I’m unlikely to paint any masterpieces with it. So, I let availability decide, and after phoning a few art stores, decided to take my dollars to Central Hobbies. They had an Iwata Neo, a Grex TG and a Paasche Talon in stock. I’m sure any of them could do the job, but I went with the Grex because I liked the ability to remove the paint cup.

I’m looking forward to seeing how it performs.

  1. Have fun learning to airbrush again. I think you’ll find that a gravity feed is a much easier design to paint with and clean. You don’t really need to do a full strip down after each paint job either. Just do a quick rinse of the color cup, dump, add more cleaner/thinner and spray until you spray clear. Takes me 30-60 seconds for me to clean my Badger airbrush.
