Is anyone ever happy with the first sample they print? I’m calling these test prints, but in fact they’re semi-failed prints. In the case of the base, I forgot to change one dimension of the legs. So, when I tried fitting a piece of 10×10 sugar pine against them, there was no relief left for the siding. Otherwise, it was perfect. The tank could have be with a bit of filling and sanding the divots left by the overzealous use of supports.
The tank is made for 10×10 legs, and doesn’t fit the base perfectly, but when posed atop the misprint, it nicely demonstrates how the water tower will fit in the scene. I also experimented with the water gauge and its magnet drive. That works, but it’s a devil to see it around the side of the tank.
I shot a few photos for the North Shore Model Railroaders, who met online last night. They convinced me to go back to the ball float on the finial. The argument that finally won the day was a reference to the CPR (they’re almost all CPR modellers, but otherwise okay) having chosen the ball float because, with no pulley and wet rope over the side of the tank, it worked better in cold weather.

Rene – Many people model, but only a few elevate to the level of CPR modelers. Most CNR modelers I’ve met over the years are more ‘scribes’ than modelers……..
And the religious wars began. LOL.
