Extra 10 North Holds the Main

I’ve been making steady progress toward eliminating derailments on the main track. However, the passing siding has seen wheels only a couple of times in all these years because, frankly, there hasn’t been a need to use it!

So, to create a reason to use the passing siding, and also to get the equipment off the window sill, I brought the freight train up from Golden Lake, and let it occupy the main track so the passenger has to go around. Sadly, this does not mean I have a second working engine. I had to helicopter in, and push the cars up from staging. However, I really did issue a pair of train orders (it needed the annulment of 51) and a clearance and I filled out the registers to bring the equipment up. So, this was a bonafide movement. Number 45, of course, is a scheduled train, and should have right to the main track, but the dispatcher decreed otherwise.

It’s neat to see crossing action on the layout, even if it is made up!

Oh, and the switch on turnout 8 needs attention, but otherwise the first run went remarkably well.

Taken from the end of the coaling platform.

  1. Rene, the leading photo really does show all the great work you’ve put into the layout over the years. Looks fantastic
