I’ve always admired Brian Rudko’s modelling. Being a professional model-maker for many years, he knows how to make things straight where they’re supposed to be, and avoid gaps and globs of glue. More importantly, he has a wonderful eye for colour and texture.
So, when he said that he would like to make a small model for Pembroke, of course I leaped at the chance. We quickly aligned on one of the three small houses between the freight shed and the Pembroke Milling Company warehouse. Over Christmas, I sent him some prototype photos for inspiration along with a laser-cut core that would match the other two houses in the series.
This week, he had an opportunity to drop it off. I had a 30-minute break between meetings, and invited him in so we could see it in place. I even had a train set up and ready for him to run past the new addition. The house is, as expected, a beautifully executed little model. What a thrill it is to have a Rudko original on my layout!

so lucky to have a Rudko original!
Yes I am!
I have a Rudko original as well. I purchased a beautiful sand tower from him. He does beautiful work.
Not totally accurate for my prototype but it will occupy a highly visible area next to the future roundhouse. And it’s a bit of a celebrity having appeared on a Model Railroader cover.
