The new airbrush made quick work of spraying 1120 all black. Compared with the old airbrush, this one is a delight. Sure, I can still make mistakes, but I don’t feel like I’m constantly fighting the tool.
This was my first time using Vallejo paint and primer. I can’t even write that name without Marc Simpson, who is married to a native Spanish-speaker, popping into my head to say the name properly. Interestingly, accordingly Wikipedia, Vallejo started in New Jersey, then moved to Spain. So perhaps the name was Americanized at the onset. Anyway, if Marc would take a break from mispronouncing ‘ll’ and ‘j’ in my head, I will say that I am 100% impressed by my first encounter with these paints. They went on smooth and thin, but appeared to cover well.
I’ll leave the masking intact until the lettering is completed so that I can spray a sealing gloss coat over everything. Once the mask comes off, I’ll touch up the area below the running boards with a brush; because the drivers can’t be removed, this seemed like the easiest path.

Hi Rene,
looks good! I like working with the Vallejo colors with their very fine pigments, too. Hopefully leaving the masking in place is a good plan: I read that if you don’t remove the masking tape, there can be noticeable edges on the paintwork.
Regards,
Andy
Thank-you so much, Andreas. The masking turned out fine.

Thanks Andy. The masks all line up with surface details so any edge should be disguised.
Don’t leave the tape on too long Rene or it may leave a residue or lift some of the masked paint with it. (Don’t ask me how I know…..)
Thanks Jim; I should be okay for a day or two, I think. I always stick tape to something else before using it on a model, so it’s a little less tacky. Even so, I probably should have used the Tamiya stuff. Oh well, hopefully I won’t have to repaint the smoke box.
